黄 = 井 + 由 + 八 : Mnemonic symbol: the Yellow Emperor.

Helga Horse (hu) invited the Yellow Emperor (黄) to have a few cuba libres (由) in the anglepod's kitchen (ang2). But it's a trap! After the yellow emperor is drunk enough, Helga Horse spills eightballs (八) on the floor for the yellow emperor to trip on and fall into a well (井).

书 = 丨 + ㇆ + 丶 : Sheldon Shrimp (shu) is enjoying a good book (书) in front of the space station (Ø1). Because he is lazy, he built a thingy to hold the pages in place with a dinosaur bone (丨) and two plows (㇆). He is laying very comfortable on a petal (丶) serving as sofa.

刊 = 刂 + 干 : Later in his life Karl Marx (k) turned more to the artsy side. He peeled (刊) dried fruits (干) with a kitchen knife (刂), squeezed the pulp into empty books and published (刊) them in front of the anthill (an1).
