长 = 乛 + 丆 + 丿 : The chief (长) is asking James II of England (zh) for help, because his wind wheel (丆) in the anglepod's living room (丆) isn't performing very well. After finding out that there's too much friction, James II of England uses a sickle (乛) to cut open a banana (丿) and uses the pulp to grease the wind wheel and enhance (长) its performance.

篇 = ⺮ + 扁 : Pocahontas (pi) got a job as delivery girl. In front of the anthill (an1), she is moving her small boat (扁) with a bamboo stick (⺮) to deliver packets of (篇) ancient bamboo books (篇).

小 = 八 + 亅 : Mnemonic symbol: a small daisy. 小 looks like the stem 亅 of the flower is pushing aside the earth 八 as it grows out of the seed in the ground.
