知 = 口 + 矢 : Mnemonic symbol: Francis Bacon is attributed to have stated "scientia potentia est", "knowledge is power". I'll thus represent 知 by Francis Bacon. 者 = ⺹ + 日 : Mnemonic symbol: the sun (日) is wearing a crown (⺹). This reminds me of Louis XIV, le Roi Soleil, the Sun King, which will thus be the mnemonic symbol for 者. The crown (⺹) wearing sun (日), the Sun King (者) and James II of England (zh) are taking part in a writing contest in the elevator's living room (e3) to see who of them is the best author (作者).

智 = 日 + 知 : In the space station's bathroom (Ø4), the sun (日), Francis Bacon (知) and James II of England (zh) are competing for who's the most knowledgeable of them. They all present each other their smartphones (智能) on which they use apps to determine their IQ (智商). In the end it turns out that they are all retarded (弱智).

自 = 丶 + 目 : Mnemonic symbol: a hand mirror, which someone uses to look at themselves.

The Eye of Providence (目) is looking at itself (自) in a handheld mirror (自) in the space station's bathroom (Ø4). It think it's indeed looking very good, since Zorro (z) attached a petal (丶) to its eye (目).

明 = 日 + 月 : A searchlight. Together with the moon, Marilyn Monroe is looking for the sun just inside the engine's kitchen. To make the search easier they use a searchlight.
