硬 = 更 + 石 : Maud Younger (y) finds the snake which ate too much (更) in the engine's bathroom ((e)ng4), and it feels miserable. To make the snake feel better Maud massages the snake using two warm stones (石). As Maud massages the snakebshe finds that the snake's belly is really hard (硬).

式 = 工 + 弋 : I'll use a specific style as mnemonic symbol: 哥特式, gothic.

Sherlock Holmes and the goth are celebrating a Viking festival in the space station's bathroom. They don't have trunks to throw around, so they use a steel beam. They also celebrate by practising archery. In zero gravity it is easy for them to set one world record after the next.

磁 = 兹 + 石 : The King of Chu (c) broke open a mysterious, previously sealed rock (石) made of porcelain (磁) just inside the space station's entrance (Ø2). The rock contained a magnet (磁) which as soon as the King of Chu picked up was so powerful as to attract a Nimitz class aircraft carrier (兹), crashing the hull of the space station.

机 = 几 + 木 : Joan of Arc (ji) made a machine (机) that fully automatically manufactures tables (几) out of Christmas trees (木) and tests it in front of the space station (Ø1).
