蒋 = 艹 + 将 : Chiang Kai-shek (蒋) is battling Joan of Arc (ji) in the anglepod (ang3). They are playing a life-sized game of chess and have the board laid out using sheets of artificial lawn (艹). Chiang Kai-shek is riding on his king (将) while Joan of Arc is riding on her queen while the figures are moving over the battlefield.

纬 = 纟 + 韦 : Willy Walrus (w) and the silk worm (纟) are surprised how cold it is in the Eiffel Tower (ei3). Not only Willy Walrus, but also the silk worm has to wear leather gloves (韦) to keep warm. It must be because of the high latitude (纬).

国 = 囗 + 玉 : Mnemonic symbol: a nation's flag. Let's say the Chinese flag.

In the observatory's kitchen (o2) Gitta Giraffe (gu) is practising her ballet performance. She got a whole crate (囗) full of jade bracelets (玉) and flags (国) and fixed one flag to each jade bracelet. This makes a perfect combination for throwing the ring with the flag waving behind it and catching the ring again after a few pirouettes.
