兵 = 丘 + 八 : Brunhilde and the soldier visit a burial mound in front of the engine. It is round like a ball like the deceased inside. To commemorate the round fallen soldier they put up a big eight-ball.

役 = 彳 + 殳 : Maud Younger (y) has been forced to manucfacture black sneakers (彳) in the space station's bathroom (Ø4). When she started the forced labor (役) all she got as a tool was a halberd (殳).
