Sup dawg, I heard you like paintings

You may not be talking about caves every day, but is more than that: a character component appearing in many other characters. To be ready creating mnemonics for these other characters, we need a symbol for , and I'll represent it with cave paintings.

As for the parts of , at the top we have , which I like to see as graduation cap; and at the bottom there is , "eight", which I represent by an eight-ball.

The pronunciation of , "xue2", can be decomposed into "xu" + "e2". I represent "xu" by Hermes, because all pronunciation initials going with a "ü" sound (like "xu") are represented by Greek deities. There's no Greek deity starting with "x", sorry! So I just arbitrarily chose Hermes. As for "e2", it's the Erechtheion; the second tone goes with "just inside the entrance".

Hermes presents his newest piece of art: Cave paintings painted on a gigantic eight-ball. Somehow he managed to set it up inside the Erechtheions entrance. For his great artistic achievement, he gained a honorary doctor, and proudly wears his hard earned graduation cap. - Mnemonic by Matthias, over 3 years ago | add a painting

A roof is not easily represented in a room, so I'm going to represent it by a graduation cap. Marilyn Monroe (mi-) wants to go to Anchor Inn after her graduation from university. Just inside the entrance (-an2), her friends snatch away her graduation cap (symbol for 宀), and instead put a cooking top (symbol for 冖) and a petal leaf (symbol for 丶) on her head. - Mnemonic by Matthias, over 4 years ago | add a painting
